Between our phone bills and streaming services, we have enough subscriptions in our lives.  This series is a one-time purchase, and will live here on this website for as long as you want to come back to it, so you can learn at your own pace.

Relying on tabs, tutorials, and sheet music will never substitute the core elements of musicianship: a well-trained ear that recognizes melody, harmony, and rhythm, and a holistic way to think about and understand the music of today, the music you love.

Broken into three courses with ten episodes each, these modules add concrete steps to your musicianship journey to help you measure your growth in the areas that matter.

Each Module consists of ten episodes each from 10-40 minutes in length, packed to the brim with years of practical insight and original research, and also include the following:

  • popular musical examples,
  • visual aids,
  • insightful demonstrations,
  • challenging exercises,
  • members-only forums for communal learning and direct help from Warren.

Why these Modules?

The Melody, Harmony, and Rhythm Modules can take you where tabs, tutorials, and sheet music can’t.

Do you want to write your own music, play by ear, improvise, or better understand music? Do you want to grow as a musician, to go beyond searching Ultimate Guitar, YouTube, or Musescore?

While it’s true that tabs, tutorials, and sheet music help us learn single songs, they offer no benefit beyond that limited scope. Tabs offer notes without rhythm. Tutorials amount to a paint-by-numbers experience. Sheet music is a culturally-specific and historically-loaded form of music transcription that is hit-or-miss when it comes to the music of today.

Access to all the tabs, tutorials, and sheet music cannot replace the core elements of musicianship: a well-trained ear and a holistic way to think about and understand the music we love.

Broken into three modules with ten episodes each, your modular journey to musicianship is paved with concrete steps towards growth in the areas that matter: recognizing and understanding melody, harmony, and rhythm as you realize your musicianship.

Learn privately, affordably, and at your own pace.

Do private teachers’ prices make formal instruction feel out of reach? Does learning on your own time appeal to you?

For most people, private lessons are a luxury. But even when a great teacher is within reach, schedules still present obstacles.

The Melody, Harmony, and Rhythm Modules are priced affordably (about the cost of two private lessons) and always accessible.

Receive insightful instruction through hearing, seeing, and learning in community.

Learn to listen, understand, and transcribe music in a way that works for today’s music.

How is this video series different from picking up a book about music theory, going to a class, or visiting a website?

This innovative self-teaching approach introduces a proprietary grid system which integrates Melody, Harmony, and Rhythm in one elegant shorthand system you can pick up and use instantly. You won’t find it anywhere else because I developed it.

Sidestepping the most common stumbling blocks associated with standard notation — staff and ledger lines, note heads and stems, key and time signatures — The WARRENMUSIC Grid builds fluency in relative pitch, chord analysis, and beat-awareness in an fresh, powerful, and intuitive approach to learning and transcription.

In simpler terms… you’ll learn how to play by ear and think about music in a way that revolutionizes your musicianship.

Invest in your own musicianship.

These Modules — combined with this innovative grid system and the access members receive — opens the door that tabs, tutorials, and sheet music can’t.

Because musicianship lasts a lifetime.

Testimonials

"Warren gave me the tools to understand music and set me on the path to teach myself how to play the music I love. His grid-based method is a great way to break down musical notation that is easier than learning to read/write sheet music."
Mitch H.
UX Designer / Researcher
"Learning from Warren has allowed without a doubt the biggest musical growth I’ve ever had in just a short period of time. From the way I approach the guitar fretboard to my music theory knowledge."
"I appreciate that his approach is non-dogmatic, non-institutional. It connects with music happening in the real world in a concrete way. Also, he has an entire system he has worked on for years to teach, which is really impressive. It's 'modular' so it feels very refreshing."
